I have the privilege of shooting Ray and Kate’s wedding this October, up in Rhode Island. There is some stunning landscape up there. Some terrain like I have never seen, like cliffs and crashing waves. We decided to have a connection session at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown. I absolutely adore shooting a couple at least once before I get to shoot their wedding. This is because the wedding day is chaos. That’s just how it goes, no matter how calm or exclamatory all parties involved may be. And I think it’s really important for the couple to know me a little bit more than just through the consultation process. We need to have some time together, the 3 of us (or 4 of us, if Hayley can come along), before the big day. So for this session, Kate, Ray, Hayley and I ventured out to this amazing paradise and made some beautiful work. And it was just that much more enjoyable because this couple makes each other laugh constantly. It was such a pleasure to witness their connection through those moments that can start off so awkwardly. Clearly, we had wind. We wanted the wind, definitely, but Kate’s hair exhausted itself trying to fight it. Ray would just be standing beside her, in front of her, behind her, and he would gently push it behind her ear. Little moments like these make me so grateful I have the job that I do, and that I can save those tiny times for people in love. I can’t wait to see you guys in October and make some more magic.
